Congressional staff panel — New policy perspectives on borders, immigration, and extreme vetting
The new Administration has proposed major changes in major and longstanding security and immigration policies. Key staffers who are involved in these issues will discuss their perspectives on the status of the new proposals and the headwinds that these proposed changes are encountering.
Paul L. Anstine currently serves as Staff Director for the House Committee on Homeland Security’s Subcommittee on Border and Maritime Security. In this role he serves as the senior advisor for Chairman Michael McCaul (R-TX) and Chairwoman Martha McSally (R-AZ) on border and maritime security policy, including the following programs: the Visa Wavier Program, CBP’s Preclearance, Biometric Entry–Exit, the Transportation Worker Identification Credential, and the Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism, among others.
Mr Anstine previously served as Congresswoman Candice Miller’s (R-MI) Legislative Director, overseeing the Congresswoman’s legislative priorities, assisting with policy messaging and monitoring floor operations.
Mr Anstine began his government service in the United States Marine Corps, which included two tours in Iraq with the 1st Marine Division.
Mr Anstine holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in International Politics from Pennsylvania State University and Masters of Arts Degree in Government from Johns Hopkins University. He is originally from Port Huron, Michigan and is married with two sons.
